High Efficiency Furnace Guide: Efficiency & Benefits

High efficiency furnace

What is a high efficiency furnace ?

High Efficiency Furnace Guide: Efficiency & Benefits. So what is a high efficiency furnace and some of the benefits? A high efficiency furnace can burn its fuel source with less energy wasted than a standard furnace which leads to savings on electric and gas bills for the homeowner. Furnace efficiency is measured by AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The higher the AFUE is the more efficient the furnace is, the more money you will save heating the home. seerenergysavings.com here is a savings calculator to better understand what you could expect from replacing a older lower efficiency furnace to a new higher efficiency furnace.

Components of the high efficiency furnace

  • Secondary Heat Exchanger- Uses the heat from the condensate coming from the exhaust pipe.
  • ECM Blower Motor-Features multiple speeds that are more energy efficient than just high, medium, and low speeds.
  • 2 Stage gas valve- Provides the system with better control over gas usage for heating.
  • Modified exhaust system- Captures condensate for use in the secondary heat exchanger.
  • Condensate Recycling- Recycles the captured condensate and uses the heat to increase efficiency.

How does the system achieve higher efficiency?

The high efficiency furnace can achieve this by using whats known as a secondary heat exchanger, 2 stage gas valve, and (ECM) blower motor, electronically communicating motor. The furnace now exhausts through a redesigned system. From going out the chimney to going out of a piece of p.v.c. When the hot exhaust air meets the cold outdoor air it condensates and flows back down the p.v.c pipe. The warm water flows to the secondary heat exchanger, which then efficiently heats the home. There is an added intake air pipe as well so the furnace can draw fresh air from outside and not have to rely on the air in the home.  These upgraded components and redesigned exhaust give’s the furnace the ability to deliver the same amount of heat using less fuel.
