Still You Have Doubts ?

Warning Signs Your Water Heater Needs a Helping Hand

While a complete lack of hot water is a clear indicator of trouble, there are more subtle signs your water heater might be on the fritz:

Fluctuating Water Temperature
Are you experiencing sudden bursts of cold water in the middle of your shower? This inconsistency could point to a problem with the heating element or thermostat.
A decrease in water pressure from your hot water taps could signify sediment buildup in the tank, restricting water flow.
A rotten egg odor in your hot water often indicates a bacterial problem within the tank, requiring immediate attention.
If your pilot light keeps going out, it could be due to a faulty thermocouple or gas supply issue.

Here’s what sets us apart:

Factors that can influence your repair cost:

Your water heater’s age and condition: Just like us, water heaters wear down over time. An older unit might require more extensive repairs or even replacement.

Accessibility of your water heater: Is it tucked away in a cramped attic or easily accessible in the garage? Location can play a role in the complexity of the repair.

The brand and model of your unit: Certain brands have unique parts and repair requirements, which can influence the overall cost.

Emergency service needs: Need a repair ASAP? While we offer prompt service, emergency calls outside of regular business hours might have an additional charge.

Our commitment to you:

Honest assessments: Our certified technicians will carefully diagnose the problem and provide a detailed explanation of what’s going on with your water heater.

No hidden fees: We’ll always provide a clear and itemized estimate before starting any work so you know exactly what to expect.

Keep Your Water Heater Happy: A Guide to Simple Maintenance

Your water heater works hard to keep the hot water flowing, but even the most reliable units need a little TLC from time to time.

By following a few simple maintenance tips from our repair experts, you can extend the life of your water heater, improve its efficiency, and prevent unexpected problems.

Remember: Always refer to your owner’s manual for specific instructions and safety guidelines for your particular model.

Drain the Tank: Flush Out the Gunk

Sediment buildup is a common culprit behind water heater troubles. Twice a year, drain your water heater to remove this sediment and prevent corrosion. This simple step can also boost your water heater’s efficiency, saving you energy and money!

How to do it:

Turn off the power: For electric water heaters, switch off the breaker. For gas water heaters, turn the thermostat to the “pilot” setting.

Let the water cool: Allow the water in the tank to cool down before draining.

Connect a hose: Attach a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the tank.

Open the valve: Direct the hose to a safe drainage area and open the drain valve.

Flush and close: Allow the water to drain completely, then close the valve and remove the hose.

Check the Pressure Relief Valve: Safety First

The pressure relief valve is an essential safety feature that prevents excessive pressure buildup inside the tank. Test it regularly to ensure it’s working correctly.

How to do it:

Place a bucket: Position a bucket under the overflow drain pipe.

Lift the handle: Carefully lift the handle on the pressure relief valve and then close it again.

Caution: The water may be hot. Avoid using excessive force when opening the valve, as this can damage it.

Check for water: Opening the valve should release a burst of water into the overflow drain pipe. If no water is released, it’s time to have a new pressure relief valve installed.

Temperature Setting Finding the Sweet Spot

Keeping your water heater’s thermostat set to 120 degrees Fahrenheit strikes a good balance between comfort and energy efficiency. This temperature is hot enough for everyday needs while minimizing the risk of scalding and reducing energy waste.

Gas Water Heater Air Screen: Keep it Clean

If you have a gas water heater with an air screen at the bottom, it may require periodic cleaning. Consult your owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to clean the air screen for your model.

By addressing water heater issues promptly and investing in regular maintenance, you can ensure a comfortable and healthy home.

Don’t hesitate to contact Downriver Climate Control for all your HVAC and water heater repair needs.

I am so grateful my Google search led me to Downriver Climate Control! Justin came out the very next day after I called to inspect a leak. He was extremely thorough, clearing out everything that was clogged up and explaining the issue in simple, easy-to-understand terms. He discovered my condenser pump was broken and not pumping properly, walked me through the fair pricing for the work, and asked for my approval before proceeding. Once approved, he went straight to the store for the new pump, came right back, and fixed it immediately. Now our AC is working amazingly with no leaks or concerns. Justin was so kind, honest, and reasonably priced. I couldn't have asked for better service!
